1. FIND A PURPOSE FOR YOUR LIFE
Spend some time figuring out what is truly important to you and why they are so important. What do you want to achieve in life? What are your dreams? What makes you happy? These questions, and others like them, will help you define a purpose for your life: A purpose that will give your life meaning and direction. Without a clear purpose for your life, you will wander aimlessly through life.
2. DREAM AGAIN
As little children, we often daydreamed. We visualised what we wanted to be when we grow up. We believed that anything was possible and that nothing could stop us. But when we became adults, many of us lost that ability to dream. Many of us have buried our childhood dreams because we believe they are impossible to realize. This is rather sad. You must go back to the practice of dreaming. Whatever you can imagine, you can achieve, but you must first imagine it! Dream on paper. Write down all the things you want – no matter how far-fetched they may seem. Dreams can become reality when we believe in their possibility.
3. SET CLEAR GOALS
Once you are clear about what you want for your life and your dreams for a better tomorrow, you must set goals for their attainment: short-term goals, medium- term goals, and long-term goals. It is by acting on these goals that you will achieve your objectives. But don’t be rigid in setting goals. Allow some room for flexibility because things may change, and some of these changes may be beyond your control. By taking steps towards reaching these goals, you build momentum. And soon, nothing will be able to stop you.
4. FORGET THE PAST
Holding on to past regrets will hold you back from making progress. If you spend all your time worrying about the past, you will miss the present and endanger the future. You cannot change what happened in the past. Let it go. The only thing you have control over is how you live in the present. Let the past go with all its sorrow and bitter pains, and move ahead to the great tomorrow that awaits you!
5. STRETCH YOURSELF
Step out of your comfort zone. Stretch yourself. Challenge yourself. Make a list of the things you are scared of attempting, make a plan and then go do them. The only way to conquer fear is by attempting what we fear. And the more we attempt the things we are afraid of, the bolder we will become, and the more we will achieve.
6. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
Health is not automatic for any one of us. We must continue to pay a price if we want to remain healthy and strong all through life. We may not be able to control all the physical, emotional, and spiritual changes that occur in our body as we get older, but we can control what we eat and what we feed our mind. Engaging in physical exercise is one of the best ways to maintain a positive and optimistic attitude, and living a balanced life will help you enjoy a happier and more satisfying existence.
7. MASTER FEAR
Many of us shrink from our fears and expect that somehow they will go away. It doesn’t work like that. If you want to improve your life, you must confront your fears and master them. Fear is the enemy of success, and until we look our fears in the eyeball, they will continue to overpower us. Our fears are only as strong as we make them. The more you entertain a particular fear, the stronger that fear becomes and the greater influence it has on you. Confront your fears and overcome them. If you don’t, they will limit your life.
8. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF
The only person who has the power to transform your life is YOU! This is why you must believe in yourself – no matter what others may think of you or how they treat you. Just like any other human, you may have to face rejection, but don’t take it personal. Accept yourself for who you are. Never put yourself down or think yourself inferior to others. And don’t be overly concerned about other people’s opinion of you. Be yourself and live your own life.
9. CULTIVATE GRATITUDE
Many of us believe that the grass is greener on the other side but when we get there, we often realize that it’s just not so. Learn to be grateful in every situation of life. Don’t be so consumed with pursuing your goals that you miss out on the joy of the moment. Happiness doesn’t have to wait for some time in the future; it can be enjoyed NOW! Be happy NOW!
